MCA to help Terengganu’s Kg Cina fire victims through tough times

PETALING JAYA: MCA has pledged to do whatever it can to help the victims of a recent fire involving 12 shops at Jalan Bandar, Kampung Cina in Terengganu.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he received a video of the fire that happened on Sunday (Sept 18) night.

“Thankfully, there were no casualties.

“I, along with Terengganu MCA, will do what is necessary to help the victims through this difficult time,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Sept 19).

Dr Wee also expressed his gratitude to those who fought the blaze and rendered assistance to the victims.

“Thank you to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), led by Terengganu JBPM deputy director Mohd Khairiri Arshad with 70 members including 10 officers and seven fire engines from the Jalan Kota, Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus and Marang fire and rescue stations.

“Thank you also to the volunteer firefighters, police and Civil Defence Force who worked hard to put out the fire and help the victims in this incident,” he said.

It is learnt that the firefighters took almost 10 hours to extinguish the fire.

The shops and semi-permanent structures affected by the fire included textile shops, locksmiths’, eateries, gold shops and inns.

Seven premises were razed while five others sustained between 20% and 90% damage in the 8.15pm fire.
