‘Missing’ senior found safe and sound after in Bukit Kukusan forest in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen who was reported missing on Wednesday (Aug 10) in Tawau district, has been found safe on Thursday (Aug 11).

Masri Bachi, 60, had actually decided to stay overnight in the Bukit Kukusan forest near his home as he was too tired to walk further following a day’s work gathering wild vegetables and other food.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Department chief Julius John said the man was found safe around 9am when rescuers continued their search for him early Thursday.

“When asked, Masri told us that he decided to rest in the forest and continue his journey home the next day as he was too tired to walk further,” he said.

“We had two teams together with villagers searching for the man. He was found about 200m from our operation centre set up for the search and rescue,” he added.

Masri was safe and uninjured.

He was reported missing after failing to return home on Wednesday.
