MMEA rescues four after boat capsizes off Mersing

MERSING: Four local men have been rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) after their boat capsized while they were fishing near Pulau Tengah here.

Mersing zone MMEA director Maritime Comm Khairul Nizam Misran said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Wednesday (Aug 17).

“We received information from the manager of a resort that the four men were stranded near the island after their boat capsized due to bad weather,” he said.

“We sent a boat to the scene to provide assistance,” added Khairul Nizam in a statement on Thursday (Aug 18).

He said that the four victims are aged from 33 to 43 and were unhurt.

“They have been sent to the Teluk Gading maritime jetty for a medical check-up,” he added.

He advised the public to be careful when out at sea, especially during bad weather.
