More clarity needed on DPM agreement, says Umno’s Isham Jalil

PETALING JAYA: More clarity is needed on the agreement between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, says Isham Jalil (pic).

The Umno supreme council member said that he has been asked repeatedly by the party grassroots about the agreement on the appointment of a deputy prime minister.

He added that he has been asked if the Umno supreme council is aware of the agreement.

“Perhaps Tan Sri Annuar Musa can comment on whether it is real, because Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders had mentioned that he is one of the signatories,” said Isham

“If it is real, I want to ask, did he ask the party or the supreme council when he signed the agreement,” added Isham in a statement on Wednesday (July 13).

He said that the signing of such an agreement is not a small matter as it involves MPs within the government and political parties within the government, including Umno.

“If the agreement is real, please explain The grassroots and the rakyat wants to know. This is not an issue that cannot be hidden under the carpet,” said Isham.

This comes after PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan also admitted to drafting a memorandum of agreement in August 2021 for the deputy prime minister’s post.

On this, Isham asked Takiyuddin why he did not consult his party president on the matter.

“Takiyuddin, did you not consult your party president? Side-deals such as this may destroy the party and breach party discipline,” said Isham.
