Nasyid singer caught with ganja plants to be charged at PJ courts

PETALING JAYA: “Send my regards to Syed Saddiq”. That was the message from singer and composer Yasin Sulaiman to members of the media when he arrived at the court complex here on Thursday (March 31) at 10am.

Yasin was arrested for cultivating ganja plants in his home in Kota Damansara here on March 24.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is Muar MP, had said the use of medical hemp and marijuana in Malaysia should be considered when debating the 12th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat last year.

The artist will be charged under Section 39B and Section 6B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 at the Magistrate’s Court and Sessions Court respectively.

“Send my regards to YB Syed Saddiq, ask him to expedite the approval for cannabis to be used for medical purposes in Parliament,” Yasin was quoted by mStar, the Star Media Group’s Bahasa Malaysia portal.

Last week, the former nasyid singer and songwriter was arrested after police raided his condominium unit.

In the 5.30pm raid, police found 17 ganja plants in his possession.

Police initially found 214g of compressed dried leaves believed to be ganja, and further checks revealed a make-shift greenhouse as well as 17 ganja plants.

The seizure was worth at least RM10,200.
