New Johor MB must not be a proxy for anyone, says Pasir Gudang Umno Youth chief

JOHOR BARU: Whoever is appointed to lead Johor must not be a proxy for anyone, says Umno Youth exco member Noor Azleen Ambros.

In a cryptic message posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday (March 15), the Pasir Gudang Umno Youth chief said that administering a state was not a job for one person.

“Let the individual that is sought be the one who is blessed and gets the mandate of the party. The person sought must be as promised to the voters,” he said here Tuesday (March 15).

Noor Azleen added that it was important for the individual to have the support of the party in order to navigate the state easily.

“If possible, the person that is sought should not be a proxy for anyone,” he said.

There is talk that Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, great grandson of Umno founder Datuk Onn Jaafar, will be the next Johor mentri besar.

Johor Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad was expected to be nominated for a second term as mentri besar, but his call on Monday (March 14) for a younger person to be nominated is being seen as an indication that he is not in the running for the post.

The names of Hasni, Onn and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi are reported to have been shortlisted for the mentri besar’s post.

Barisan won 40 of the 56 seats in the Johor state assembly in the election on Saturday (March 12).
