Nine students charged with causing hurt to 14-year-old in bullying case

TELUK INTAN: Nine 17-year-old boys at a boarding school, arrested in connection with a bullying case, have been charged with causing grievous hurt to a 14-year-old student.

All nine pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nur Faizah Muhamad Saleh in court here on Monday (Sept 5).

The offence was allegedly committed in a hostel room of a secondary school on Jalan Changkat Jong here at about 12.30am on June 23.

The charge, framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides for imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine, if found guilty.

Nur Faizah allowed them bail of RM2,000 each and set Oct 5 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by DPP Azalea Sharmeen Zaizan, while the students were represented by S. Francis from the National Legal Aid Foundation. – Bernama
