PAS welcomes Muafakat revival, committed to efforts to unite the “ummah”

PETALING JAYA: PAS welcomes the revival of Muafakat Nasional, says party secretary general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

“PAS is committed to all efforts for the unity of the ummah, especially among the Malays and Muslims in line with the Quran which emphasises on a truce among Muslims who are at loggerheads in their dealings,” said Takiyuddin in a statement on Monday (Oct 3).

This comes after Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Sunday (Oct 2) that his party was open to discussions to revive the pact.

He said the concept of a truce was clearly stated in the Muafakat charter, which was inked in September 2019.

“With this, PAS is certainly looking for the unity of the ummah among the main Malay parties in the country along the lines of Islamic brotherhood which could give it strength according to the principles of Islam,” he said.

Takiyuddin added that PAS would look deeper into Umno’s readiness on the matter and will make a final decision before the end of this week on the cooperation.

Ahmad Zahid had, on Sunday, said that among the conditions for working with PAS in the 15th General Election was for PAS to leave Perikatan Nasional and sever ties with Bersatu.
