PKR called to explain complaints on party polls by ROS, says Saifuddin

SHAH ALAM: PKR has to explain to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) regarding the slew of complaints made during its recently-concluded party polls, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic).

Saifuddin said this request was conveyed through a notice letter by the RoS on Sunday (July 17) morning and he has since been in touch with lawyers over the matter

“The party has received a notice letter from the ROS for the secretary-general to explain the complaints that the ROS received regarding its party polls,” said Saifuddin during his winding-up speech at the PKR national congress on Sunday.

The party polls – of which the results were made official earlier this month – had received over 1,800 complaints.

Saifuddin does not discount the turbulence ahead and urged those present to be prepared for the worst situation.

“The first thing that came into my head was that we must be ready for the hardest time, just like what happened to DAP in 2013 and MIC in 2015,” said Saifuddin.

Saifuddin said as the PKR national congress concludes on Sunday (July 17), this would be his last day as the party secretary-general, but added that he would continue working for the party.

“I, Saifuddin Nasution, will defend the party from any action by the ROS,” he added.

DAP was instructed by the ROS in July 2017 to hold a fresh election for its central executive committee (CEC) after it found that DAP’s earlier re-election on Sept 29, 2013 was not held in accordance with the law.

Initially, DAP was ordered to hold a re-election in 2013 because its election for the CEC on Dec 15, 2012, was marred by an excel spreadsheet error which affected the results.

In 2014, ROS had ordered the MIC to hold re-elections after nullifying the results of the party elections in November 2013 following complaints of discrepancies.

Following several legal battles between ROS and MIC in 2015, MIC finally held a fresh election in November of that year.
