QuickCheck: Has a special committee been set up to deal with sexual harassment and bullying in schools?

THE Education Ministry has set up a special committee to improve procedures for cases of sexual harassment and bullying in educational institutions under the ministry.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the committee is composed of eight individuals and former education director-general Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim is the chairman.

These individuals, he said, come with extensive experience and with different professional backgrounds.

Among them are former senior government officials, lecturers, counsellors, legal officers and representatives of non-governmental organisations.

“Establishing the special committee is one of the ministry’s approaches to finding the best solution to deal with sexual harassment and bullying cases in educational institutions.

“We are confident and believe that, with the experience and expertise of its members, this special committee will be able to help the ministry to study in-depth and subsequently recommend appropriate action plans that can be taken to address cases of sexual harassment and bullying,” he said in a post on his Facebook page on May 19.
