Rimpac 2022: Royal Malaysian Navy’s KD Lekir refuels successfully in Hawaiian waters

PETALING JAYA: An on-sea refuelling operation in Hawaii waters by the Royal Malaysian Navy’s KD Lekir was conducted successfully.

The Katsuri-class corvette, on assignment there as part of the Rim of the Pacific (Rimpac) 2022 exercise, conducted the underway replenishment (UNREP) at sea with USNS Henry J. Kaiser on June 26.

“The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) ship met with the American oiler in Hawaiian waters off Oahu Island on Sunday afternoon (June 26), after almost two weeks of non-stop sailing in the Pacific Ocean.

“KD Lekir is Malaysia’s second representative in Rimpac after KD Lekiu took part in 2018,” the Royal Malaysian Navy said on its Facebook page on Monday (June 27).

It added that the ship, led by commander Mohd Asri bin Dasman, would be conducting a missile-firing exercise during Rimpac’s sea phase.

Rimpac will be conducted from June 29 to Aug 4, seeing participants from 26 nations.

It is the world’s largest international maritime exercise.
