Sandakan croc attack: Rescuers find victim’s severed head

KOTA KINABALU: A man who went missing following a crocodile attack in the Sandakan district has been found dead.

However, rescuers only found the victim’s head at around 8am on Sunday (Sept 11).

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the victim, who was in his 50s, was reported to have been attacked at a river near Taman Kenari on Sept 9.

“His head was discovered by the search and rescue team on the third day of operations about 300m from where he was last seen,” he said in a statement.

The man, whose identity has yet to be released, was crossing the river on a makeshift bamboo raft to return home, prior to the attack.

He managed to call out for help when the crocodile attacked and dragged him underwater.

Misran said the victim’s remains has been handed over to the police for further action.
