SEA Games: Malaysia esports teams conclude run with three bronze medals
Malaysia has completed its esports competition at SEA Games 2021 in Hanoi, Vietnam with three bronze medals.
On May 15, the eRimau team formed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) won bronze for Fifa Online 4. Thailand won gold while Vietnam took home silver. The team consisted of Muhammad Luqman Haziq Hajiman, Muhammad Asyraf Kamal, Gan Mun Kiat and Wan Muhammad Hakimm Wan Narizan.
Muhammad Luqman described the win as one of the best moments in his career in a posting on Facebook.
Malaysia also took home bronze medal for Arena Of Valor on May 22, coming behind Vietnam (second place) and Thailand (gold). ADT Esports players Cheng Wei Han, Cheoh Yong Chen, Chye Zi Yang, Shee Ji Hong, Loo Yong Leong, Lai Chia Chien and Cham Hong Xin represented Malaysia. Coach Stanley Low said while the team may have displayed some anxiety during the competition, he was proud of their performance and described them as “heroes” in a tribute posted on Facebook.
At the PUBG Mobile group event on May 22, Malaysia took home a bronze medal when Tabah NSEA finished third with 148 points behind Vietnam (silver/156 points) and Indonesia (gold/163 points).
Geek Fam, another Malaysian team, also finished in top 10 at seventh place with 120 points.
The players for both teams are Muhammad Irfan Jafni Mohamad, Muhammad Farish Husaini Zailani, Muhammad Faiz Aiman Baharuddin, Mohamad Amizul Hafiz Mohd Fadzli, Muhammad Dhiya Ulqad Muhammad Arasz, Muhamad Izzrudin Hashim, Mohd Irzam Mohd Zaini, Mohamad Nabil Nazaruddin, Ahmad Syafiq Imran Mohamad, and Nadzrul Abd Sagal.
The esports contingent formed by the Malaysia Electronic Sports Federation (MESF) consisted of 47 athletes where they represented Malaysia in seven medal events including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Free Fire, League Of Legends, League Of Legends: Wild Rift, Arena Of Valor and PUBG Mobile (solo and group).
For MLBB, League of Legends and Wild Rift, Malaysia finished in fourth place. Free Fire saw Malaysia at seventh and eight place. For PUBG Mobile solo, two players finished in the top 10 with Muhamad Izzrudin at sixth place and Muhammad Dhiya Ulhaq at tenth place.
In terms of overall medal standing, Vietnam came in first with four gold medals followed by Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand with two each. Singapore took home one silver and three bronze medals.
At the previous SEA Games in 2019, Malaysia took home two medals – gold in Hearthstone and bronze in MLBB, finishing third in overall medal standings.
