Singapore- Penang VTL-Air starts with two flights arriving Wednesday (March 16)

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will welcome two flights from Singapore on the first day of the Air Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL-Air) between Penang and Singapore on Wednesday (March 16).

The first to land in Penang International Airport will be AirAsia’s AK1730 arriving at 1.15pm followed by Singapore Airline’s SQ0138 arriving at 7pm.

Both flights will be arriving daily and later joined by four flights weekly from Scoot Tigerair starting Thursday (March 17) and daily flights from Malaysia Airlines starting April 1.

The arrivals are expected to provide a significant boost to Penang’s tourism economy, said Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

“The VTL scheme plays a pivotal role prior to the full resumption of international tourism as it will serve as a benchmark for future international travel activities.

“We will keep an open channel of communication with airline representatives as well as the airport staff members to ensure seamless launch of VTL,” he said.

The VTL initiative would allow fully vaccinated travellers between two destinations to arrive without being required to undergo mandatory quarantine.

The VTL was first initiated between Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) route on Nov 29 last year.

As of Feb 28, it has served 82,906 passengers arriving from Singapore.
