Technician dies after falling into elevator shaft at Cheras mall

KUALA LUMPUR: A lift technician fell to his death while working on a lift at a shopping mall in Cheras.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the incident occurred at 11.55am on Saturday (on Jan 28), at the second floor of the mall.

“CCTV footage showed that the 32-year-old victim fell after stepping over a waste bin that was used to get down from the floor of the main lift.

“The incident went unnoticed as the lift was not in use and was not near the main shopping areas. Police were notified of the incident on Jan 29,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 30).

The victim was found lying on the ground in the second floor basement, inside the elevator shaft.

“The case has been classified as a sudden death and investigations are ongoing,” he added.
