Three dead, two critically injured in Teluk Intan car-lorry collision

IPOH: Three men died while another two suffered critical injuries after the car they were in collided with a lorry at KM7 of Jalan Maharajalela – Teluk Intan.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the incident occurred around 9.40pm on Sunday (June 12).

“Based on early investigations, we believe that the car was from Hutan Melintang heading to Teluk Intan while the lorry was from the opposite direction.

“The car had entered the opposite lane and the lorry failed to avoid it, resulting in the incident,” he said on Monday (June 13).

Earlier, a Perak Fire and Rescue department spokesman said the firemen had to use special tools to retrieve one of the bodies.

Comm Ahmad Adnan said all five victims are friends.

“Two of the deceased were 19-years-old and another one was 26-years-old. One of the 19-year-old died at the scene.

“Another two victims died while they were receiving treatment. Meanwhile the car driver, aged 26 and another 19-year-old victim, suffered critical injuries and are currently being treated at the Teluk Intan Hospital.

“The post mortem for the three bodies will be conducted today,” he said, adding that the lorry driver was unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
