Tragedy at Midnight: Man survives pile-up on Elite Highway but loses wife and eight children

SHAH ALAM: A 50-year-old man survived but lost his wife and their eight children after their car was crushed by a trailer in an accident along the Elite Highway here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the driver of the Proton Wira was identified as Abd Razak Majit.

“His wife Noruk Naziah Buyong, 37, and their eight children died at the scene.

“The children have been identified as Muhammad Razarul Amin, 17; Razatul Aliah, 16; Puteri Hidayah, 12; Muhamad Aizat Syazwan, 10; Muhamad Rolkaizat Rezky, nine; Muhamad Hidayat Hakimie, seven; Puteri Nur Ain Syalwana, three; and 10-month-old Muhammad Raid Fathi,” he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 18).

He added that a man who died in another Proton Wira involved in the accident was identified as Mohamad Rahimibin Rolex, 27.

It was reported earlier that eight children were among 10 victims who died after they were crushed in a multi-vehicle accident along the Elite Highway near the USJ lay-by late Friday (Dec 17) night.

A crane had to be dispatched to the scene to lift a trailer off one of the crushed vehicles.

Norazam was quoted as saying the accident occurred at 11.42pm.

They dispatched a fire engine and six personnel to the scene.

He added that the accident involved a trailer, a Perodua Axia and two Proton Wira cars.

Norazam added that the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for post-mortem.
