Two bikers killed in separate accidents in Sibu

SIBU: Two men lost their lives in two separate accidents here on Wednesday (March 30).

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said in the first case, a motorcyclist died after his machine rammed into the back of a car at 4.25am Wednesday on Jalan Deshon.

He said the victim, Chow Wei Yee, 40, from Lorong Ulu Sungai Merah, was heading towards Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman from Ulu Sungai Merah when the accident occurred.

“The victim’s motorcycle crashed into the back of a car that had suddenly stalled when it ran out of fuel. He was rushed to Sibu Hospital by a member of the public but died at 6.07am,” he said.

In the second accident, a 46-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle collided head-on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction on Jalan Chew Kung at 12.55pm.

The victim had been identified as Johny Sia Mee Hu from Sungai Dassan.

“The victim’s motorcycle collided with another motorcycle ridden by a 50-year-old man. Both victims were not wearing helmets. The older man suffered injuries to his chin and knee,” he added.

The victim suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sibu Hospital.

Alexson added that both cases are being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
