Two dead, one hurt from electrocution in Papar

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were killed while another was hurt after an electrocution incident in Papar near here on Friday (Nov 18) morning.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rauf Manda, 61 and Asnan Ab Wahid, 54, while the injured is Albrayan Binga, 27.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the three men were repairing a broken street lamp at the Bukit Melinsung Apartment, Papar, when the incident occurred.

“We received a call at around 8.25am and sent out a team,” he said in a statement.

He said the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) was also informed of the incident and the main power lines were switched off for responders to conduct their duties.

Misran said the two were pronounced dead by medical officials at the scene while Albrayan survived the accident.

“The two deceased men were later taken to the hospital for postmortem while the survivor was given preliminary treatment before he was sent to the hospital for further treatment,” Misran said.

Operations on the accident site ended at 9.51am after there were no more hazardous elements found.

The SESB had recently issued statements reminding contractors, workers and the public to refrain from conducting any activities or their own repair works close to and on SESB utilities.

The SESB had reminded all to first inform them before conducting any works or activities at these areas, to prevent any accidents such as electrocution or power disruptions.
