Water level at Bukit Merah dam back to normal, says Tuan Ibrahim

IPOH: The water level at Bukit Merah dam in Kerian District is back to normal, says Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The Environment and Water Minister said he would be visiting the dam to see for himself the actual situation.

“However, I have been informed that the current level stands at 25m, which is the normal level.

“Also, I have been told that cloud seeding at the water catchment area will proceed on Tuesday (June 14) as planned,” he told reporters after launching the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (DID) district engineers and senior managers conference at a hotel here.

It was reported last week that the dam level, at its deepest areas, fell from 8.53m on May 1 to 5.98m on May 27, leading to Kerian District DID announcing that it had to stop releasing water into the irrigation canals in the district.

The National Disaster Management Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force are expected to carry out the cloud seeding operation today, depending on cloud condition suitability.
