Why applaud duo who lodged complaint with RoS, Mohd Puad asks KJ

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi questioned whether the Umno members who lodged a report with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) over possible violation of the party constitution regarding the no-contest motion for the top two party posts are being used by certain parties.

The Umno supreme council member also questioned by former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin had applauded the move made by those members.

“Were they being brave or were they being used?

“By right, it should be the top officials making such complaints. Don’t use your subordinates, let alone former officers. Is it sane?,” he said in a Facebook posting on Saturday (Jan 21).

On Friday (Jan 20), Muhammad Aizat Fikri Mohd Nasir, a party member from Terengganu lodged a report with the ROS, who claimed that the motion, which was adopted at the Umno general assembly last week, had contravened party regulations.

For one, he said that Clause 9.3 of the Umno constitution stated that the positions of president and deputy president must be elected at the division meetings every three years.

“This is to ensure democracy is alive and well in Umno,” he said.

A similar complaint was lodged by a Negri Sembilan Umno member, Muhammad Fiqri Firdaus Muhammad Rom, who said he was not directed to lodge the complaint but was doing so to exercise his rights as a party member.

The notice was handed over to RoS director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad.

Khairy had lauded the action of two Umno members who filed a complaint with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over the additional motion passed at the party’s general assembly last weekend.

“Well done, guys. There are still those who are brave and sane in Umno.

“I am confident with the credibility of ROS in determining if there were irregularities in Rembau’s motion during the general assembly,” said Khairy on Instagram.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the president of Umno, and Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, the secretary-general of the party, were not available for comment.

At the Umno general assembly last week, delegates agreed to a motion for the top two party posts not to be contested in the coming party polls.

This means Ahmad Zahid and Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan would remain as Umno president and deputy president, respectively, for another term.

Party polls are to be held before May 19, six months after the conclusion of the 15th General Election.
