Withdraw support if you think economy is improperly managed, Umno Youth to Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should withdraw support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob if he thinks that the economy is not properly managed, says Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

The Umno Youth chief said that the Perikatan Nasional chairman should not just continue to make threats without taking any action.

“Please prove it by taking action and order your team who are currently part of the government to pull their support for the Prime Minister.

“If you dare, please press the button now,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 20).

On Monday (Sept 19) Muhyiddin had said that it is better for the Prime Minister to call for a general election if the country’s economy is not managed properly.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president said that Ismail Sabri could not be oblivious to the slide of the ringgit – which affected the import of food.

However, Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP and National Recovery Council chairman, said he was not pushing for an early election.

“I have yet to reach the stage… but I think that if the Prime Minister does not manage the economy and the country properly, it is better for the general election to be held so that a new government which is more efficient, caring and free of corruption can be chosen by the people,” said the former prime minister.

Asyraf hit out at Muhyiddin by saying that the economy was recovering and doing better compared to the ‘half-baked’ lockdown period when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.

“So who is the real person that failed to manage the economy?” asked Asyraf.

“Who is the International Trade and Industry Minister? Who is the minister in charge of the Economy? And who is the chairman of the National Recovery Council? Aren’t they all from the party that uses the flower logo (Bersatu)?

“Again, who actually failed?” said Asyraf.
