The 38-year-old deceased was riding on a motorbike with her husband, 39, and their son, all Indonesians, when the incident occurred at KM10 on Jalan Kunak-Tawau at 4.45pm on Monday (July 11).

Kunak OCPD Supt Sabarudin Rahmat said the family was travelling on a motorcycle when The SUV crashed into them from behind.

He said the SUV, driven by a 54-year-old man, was headed to Kunak town and was attempting to overtake another vehicle.

“The husband was flung onto the roadside by the collision but the woman and the boy, who were riding pillion, were dragged under the SUV.

“The man and the boy suffered superficial wounds but the woman died on the spot,” Supt Sabarudin said when contacted on Tuesday (July 12), adding that the SUV driver and his wife escaped unscathed.

He said authorities do not suspect anyone for being under the influence of alcohol but had taken blood samples for tests.

“We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Supt Sabarudin said.
